Definition: Quadraturista is an Italian word used when describing an artist who paints illusionist decorations. What are those? Well, illusionism is when techniques like perspective and foreshortening are used to trick the eye into thinking that it is looking at a real, live object - rather than a painting or drawing. Imagine a very, very realistic painting of a broken egg on a floortile. If done correctly, the Quadraturista or, illusionist painter, would trick you into running for a paper towel to clean up the mess.
